Remember when Callum said he wished he could have an adventure like the story his grandfather was telling him?  Yeah, I don’ think this is what he had in mind.

This page concludes Chapter 2: Torvuld’s Plight.  Woohoo!  It’s also the last page collected in Tears of the Dragon -Volume I, available now at Amazon.com!

The next chapter of Tears of the Dragon is already in production.  Not to toot my own horn or anything, but things really pick up in the next chapter.  Despite now being in the clutches of bandits, the Old Man continues his tale, in which we jump forward some seven years. We open on the battlefield, meet 19 year old Yordania, and introduce the final two important characters that make up our epic TOTD cast.

Expect regular updates to continue again in August.  Until then, continue to check out the blog on Tuesdays for bonus content.

Tears of the Dragon has been a story kicking around in my brain for over a decade.  About a year and a half ago, I took the time to plot out the entire story, beginning, middle, and end.  But I’ve been writing the script to keep ahead of Koko and Miguel, but not to be so far ahead that I can’t make changes here or there. I think I’ve grown a ton as a sequential story teller from the beginning of this story until now, and will continue to grow as the story continues.

One of the benefits of running Tears as a webcomic is the reader interaction.  You guys have caught typos that I missed, and spread this story around the internet.  I thank you for it.  So, while I know exactly where this story is going, I’m not above listening to you to hear what you’d like to see more of.  So please, if you’ve been enjoying the story, and want to share what appeals to you about it, or what you hope to see more of in the coming chapters, I’m listening.

Dark stuff in today’s page.  Trying to understand how someone could take his or her own life is always difficult.

To understand Queen Cambria’s state of mind, it might be worth a quick recap of the story so far.  In context, her decision may be a bit more understandable, though certainly no less tragic.

• Remember, we learned early on that the lack of clear heir left to Old King Heldemort had the entire realm of Vapolany on edge. While the matter of succession ended up being decided peacefully, it’s understandable that providing an heir would be a pressing concern to the next Queen.
• We saw just how important providing an heir to the King was for Cambria after her first son was died.
• Losing a second and third son three days after their births would weigh heavily on anyone.  Losing this last child after traveling to the alter for blessing must have convinced Cambria that she was cursed and there was nothing she could do to appease the Gods.  In her mind, she was doing Torvuld a favor, for she was convinced she would be unable to bear him a son.
